Preparing to run 100 miles is no joke. My latest training week was 116km & 5400m elevation. My next goal: 100 Miles and 3 loops of Cape Chignecto. A monumental challenge and one that we are just getting warmed up for.

A supreme trust in my training and preparation has helped me earn 2 buckles in my first 2 years as a trailrunner. I earn every step of 100+ miles even before I step to the start line.

As I train up for my 3rd buckle, many thoughts arise. Thoughts that are born from running many hours, but that I apply to life in general and soar well above just running.

I will attempt to share some of those thoughts below.

Do not be concerned with how fast or how slow you go. Concern yourself only with your level of belief. Believing that what you do every day was once considered impossible… and IS impossible to some – whether incapable or unwilling.

This is the way. Putting in the work.

This is for them. Those that cannot and those that look up to me.

This is for us. My children, my team, and my greatest supporter and wife.

This is for me. I strive to learn about myself to be the best human, husband, father, brother, son, and friend that I can.

You see, it’s more than just running. It’s what it all means. The value behind the sacrifices and the journey. Mining the caverns of mental and physical endurance so that I may apply those lessons to my life.

Commit to the process; not the outcome. Seeking intention, not attention. Being rid of the excuses that may even be valid. Doing the work anyway.

You shouldn’t wish for something more than you’re willing to work for it. Train your body, but also your mind and spirit. Be willing to reach into the darkness to find your way to your goals.

Let the stars guide you.

Let the sun light the way.

Let the dragonfire fuel your soul.

Let yourself go freely into the fire of adversity.
